THE NEWS

  • The Yale Law School’s therapy dog is here to stay. A pilot program last month that allowed law students to rent Monty — a brown, hypoallergenic 21-pound border terrier mix — was so well received that the library will allow students to borrow the dog in May before final exams, said Law School Director of Public Affairs Janet Conroy. He will return before exams next year as well, said librarian and professor S. Blair Kauffman, who added that Monty is emblematic of the student-centered services the law library aims to provide.
  • Many students were surprised to wake up Wednesday morning to fliers warning that their suites would be demolished within three days. Luckily, the eviction notices were not real. They were distributed by members of the group Students for Justice and Peace in Palestine to raise awareness of the plight of Palestinians whose homes are being demolished by the Israeli government. Though two students interviewed who received fliers under their doors said they were not affected by the campaign, a member of the Yale Hillel board and the co-president of Yale Friends of Israel criticized the flyers for being “counter-productive” and disrespectful.
  • “What’s good for New Haven is good for Yale”may be Vinay Nayak’s ’14 campaign slogan. Nayak, the first to declare in the Ward 1 aldermanic race, held a meet-and-greet that around 30 people attended in Blue State Café on Wall Street on Thursday evening. His three main issues were public safety, education, and community development, and he highlighted the interelation between them. The audience, which included a number of current and former members of the Yale College Democrats Board, was generally positive about Nayak’s candidacy and his desire to “uplift” New Haven.
