Introducing “For Our Readers”

Dear readers,

Today marks the debut of “For Our Readers,” an online column written by the editors of News for the benefit of, well, our readers. Exploring issues of campus and city journalism, the column will aim to shed light on the decisions we make every night at 202 York St., answer your questions about our coverage and respond to reader concerns about accuracy and fairness.

This column is only a starting point. In the next weeks and months, yaledailynews.com will begin to center site statistics, featured reader comments and Q&As with the News in one section of the website. Our mission is simple: to make the News’ workings more transparent to the people we serve.

Since our goal is to interact more with you, the readers, please share your thoughts with us by e-mailing editor@yaledailynews.com. We hope to hear from you.

Best wishes,

Vivian Yee

Editor in Chief

This is a helpful new feature (speaking as someone who always looks forward to the Public Editor pieces in the NYT). The first one on the Pundits party shows you’re off to a good start.

“For our readers” will not be effective unless you really are willing to own up to mistakes or address the confusion that an article brought to your readers.
