Midfielder/attackman Brandon Mangan ’14 was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week — and is this week’s YDN Player of the Week — after scoring the game-winning goal in the men’s lacrosse team’s overtime win against Princeton on Saturday. Mangan’s second score of the day, and fourth goal in two games, capped off a game that saw Yale (5–1, 1–1) trailing 6–2 deep into the 3rd quarter.

Though Mangan was off-angle, had a defender on him, and was so far away, he nailed it anyway and gave Yale its first league win. As the saying goes, it was a bad shot until he made it.

Mangan, a native of Wantagh, N.Y., scored two goals in the match as the Elis erased a 6-2 deficit en route to Yale’s first victory over the Princeton Tigers since 2005.

“I hope [the team] relayed how lucky we were,” head coach Andy Shay said. “We didn’t deserve to get out of there with the win.”

The Bulldogs look to earn their second win in conference play at Penn on Saturday at 4 p.m.
