Shut down. An email to the “effynews” panlist at around 11 p.m. Thursday night erupted into another spam storm — until Yale College Dean Mary Miller stepped in. The chain resulted in nearly 70 exchanges until Miller replied all with a message containing no body text, but the subject line, “Please stop replying. Whoever owns this panlist needs to disable it immediately.” She courtesy copied Director of Information Technology Services Philip Long and University Information Security Officer Morrow Long.

Yale College Council elections are around the corner. YCC Vice President Annie Shi ’12 told the News Thursday night that candidacy statements will be due April 7, with elections occurring about a week later. She added that a campuswide email including full details will be sent next Thursday, March 31.

No more student tickets are available for the NCAA East Hockey Regional tournament, Assistant Athletic Director of Ticket and Rink Operations Jeremy Makins said Thursday. Tickets not subsidized by Yale can still be purchased through the Webster Bank Arena at Harbor Yard box office.

Meanwhile, the men’s hockey team, which left campus Thursday for Bridgeport — the site of the first round of the NCAA tournament — kicked things off with a team dinner at Vazzy’s Italian restaurant.

Jaden and Rylan Schwartz, the brothers of Mandi Schwartz ’11, will take the ice for Colorado College in the NCAA West Regional Hockey tournament this weekend. Their team will be an underdog as it takes on Boston College, which knocked Yale out of the tournament last season.

New Haven Superior Court Judge Roland Fasano denied a plea deal proposed by the lawyers of Joshua Komisarjevsky, the second suspect in the Cheshire triple homicide, the New Haven Register reported. In exchange for pleading guilty, Komisarjevsky would have avoided the possibility of the death penalty.

Yale’s coordinator of Muslim life, Omer Bajwa, was featured in a USA Today article this week about the increasing numbers of Muslim chaplains on college campuses. “The last two to four years is when you really saw it taking off,” Bajwa said in the article.
