THE NEWS

  • The New York Times will launch a paywall next Monday, but for Yalies, free access to “all the news that’s fit to print” will be just a few extra clicks away. Starting Mar. 28, the Times will limit non-subscribers to 20 free online articles each month. Yale students will still have access to the Times’ online image edition, which features the newspaper’s original color print format, through the library’s website.
  • The votes are in, and Silliman is the winner. The results of a March 1 Yale Daily News survey — conducted after Yale Dining declined to publicize the full results of its survey on dining satisfaction — indicate that Silliman students are most satisfied with their dining hall, while students in Morse expressed the least satisfaction with theirs.
  • As teenagers around the countryexperiment with marijuana, gender and race are playing a role in determining the nature of their use. A new study by Yale School of Medicine researchers has found that Caucasian female adolescents are more likely to use marijuana than African American or Asian girls, although more African American and Hispanic boys use marijuana than other ethnicities. The study, published in the March edition of the Journal of Addiction Medicine, also found that teenage girls transition faster from initial marijuana use to regular use than adolescent boys.
