THE NEWS

  • In the city budget Mayor John DeStefano Jr. proposed Tuesday morning, he had two main goals: preserve key initiatives such as school reform and keep taxes steady. At a press conference at City Hall Tuesday morning, DeStefano unveiled the details of his proposed budget for the upcoming fiscal year, which raises spending 0.9 percent to $475 million and does not increase taxes.
  • What’s white and fuzzy and about to go extinct? The silky sifaka lemur, that is, but not if Yale researchers have anything to say about it.
  • For the second consecutive year, interest in a new program that allows graduate students and professors to team teach undergraduate courses is on the rise. Since the Associates in Teaching program, in which professors and graduate students partner to teach undergraduate courses, started during the 2008-’09 academic year, the number courses it offers doubled to 12 this year.
