Brown tuition and fees to rise

Brown University will increase its tuition and fees by $1,776 — a 3.5 percent rise — in the 2011-’12 school year, the Brown Daily Herald reported Monday.

The increase is smaller than Yale’s 5.8 percent increase, which the University announced last week, but at $52,700, Yale’s tuition package will remain lower than Brown’s $53,136 total cost. University President Richard Levin said in an interview last week the increased growth rate in Yale’s tuition follows nearly two decades of the most restrained growth in the Ivy League.

Both Brown and Yale’s tuition will grow faster than Princeton’s, which will increase only by $489 — a change of 1 percent — in the 2011-’12 school year.
