THE NEWS

  • Yale and Harvard faculty gathered Tuesday to discuss Egyptian political unrest and other recent turmoil in the Middle East at a “teach-in” panel at Yale Law School.
  • New Haven based Metro Taxi is pairing with Hartford’s Yellow Cab Company to increase its wheelchair-accessible cab fleet from one to 140 cars.
  • Mark Ryba, the PA announcer for the Yale football and men’s hockey teams, had an odd rise to announcing prominence. A Connecticut native, he played hockey at Greenwich’s St. Mary’s and served as president of the Southern Connecticut youth hockey board of directors. While at one of the board meetings, a representative from the fledgling — and now defunct — AHL team Beast of New Haven heard Mark talk and asked him to audition for the open announcing spot back in 1999.
