Katie Miller ’12 said she expected the military to adjust to life without “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” “beautifully” in an appearance on “The Rachel Maddow Show” Dec. 20.

Miller, a lesbian who transferred to Yale from United States Military Academy at West Point because of the policy, told Maddow that she had been “completely elated” upon learning of the repeal. She added that the first time the Senate had voted down the repeal of the policy she been at an emotional all-time low.

Miller expressed confidence in the military’s ability to accept the LGBT community, citing the historical precedents of race and gender integration.

“We are service members first; we are professionals; we follow the law,” Miller said.
