Divinity School student extradited from Connecticut

Herron Gaston DIV ’13, who was arrested in Connecticut earlier this month on four counts of sexual battery, was extradited from Connecticut and transferred Tuesday to the Hillsborough Country Jail in Tampa, Florida.

Gaston faces charges involving a 17-year-old boy whom he mentored at Upward Bound, a federally-funded program at the University of South Florida that helps prepare low-income students for college. USF police were notified of the incident October 29.

In a statement released earlier this month on the Divinity School website, Dean of the Divinity School Harold Attridge said he trusted that police and legal authorities would “conduct a thorough investigation that will result in a full measure of justice under very difficult circumstances.”

“As always in our legal system, the accused student is presumed innocent until proven guilty,” he added.

At the Divinity School, Gaston was studying to be ordained in the African Methodist Episcopal Church.
