The case of the missing tumblers

Last year alone 35,000 tumblers — those all-too-familiar plastic cups — went missing from residential dining halls, according to an email sent to Yale undergrads by the Yale’s Student Taskforce for Environmental Partnership (STEP).

That amounts to 6.64 tumblers for every undergraduate student at Yale.

In addition to encouraging students to bring back any cups, dishes and utensils they may have borrowed over the course of the year, STEP listed “a few quick reminders of how you can help the environment and Yale, while you’re not even here.” These included unplugging devices, adjusting heat to a midpoint setting and defrosting fridges before Thanksgiving Break.
