AP withdraws call of Malloy win

Shortly after Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz ’83 announced around noon that her unofficial tallies showed Democratic gubernatorial candidate Dan Malloy with a 3,103 vote lead, the Associated Press announced that Malloy had won the race.

But by the evening, Republican candidate Tom Foley had amassed a lead of 8,424 votes with only 1.5 percent of precincts outstanding, and the Associated Press withdrew its call of the election.

Malloy said his tabulations indicate that he will win by 11,000 votes; Foley said his counts show a 2,000-vote victory for the Republican.
