“Glorious consensual sex?” Sounds pretty good.

In the it’s-Halloween-be-safe e-mail from the Sexual Harassment and Assault Resources & Education (SHARE) Center sent to us by Dean of Student Affairs Marichal Gentry we Yalies are reminded of how great consensual sex is:

A few years ago when we introduced the idea that consensual sex could be glorious, it seems that was a surprise to many. Consensual sex is having the sex you want, something you can say “yes” to, not something you’re afraid to say “no” to. Glorious consensual sex is something given, not taken, something shared not endured: something that makes you smile the next day, not something that hurts psychologically, emotionally or physically.

These heeding words are not new, though, and Claire Gordon ’10 wrote about them last year in a column worth checking out.

So remember this Halloween: make good choices, be safe and if you’re going to have sex may it be “glorious” and “consensual.”
