Doctors announced on Sunday that cord blood O+ appeared to have successfully engrafted into Mandi Schwartz’s ’11 bone marrow, according to a post by Schwartz’s family on website CaringBridge.

The hockey player now has healthy white blood cell and neutrophil counts and an “almost normal” bilyrubin count, the update said. The women’s hockey forward will also soon depart the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance at the University of Washington Medical Center for an apartment in downtown Seattle. Doctors plan to perform a “Day 28” bone marrow biopsy Wednesday — four weeks after Schwartz received a potentially life-saving stem cell transplant on Sept. 22 — before discharging Schwartz from the hospital.

Schwartz was first diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in December 2008.
