New Haven education reform got a high profile shout out recently.

In an interview with PBS’ news program “Need To Know,” David Guggenheim, director of the education documentary “Waiting for ‘Superman,'” defended his critique of teachers’ unions, but singled out the Elm City in a positive light.

Guggenheim also praised the efforts of Randi Weingarten, the president of the American Federation of Teachers, to work with education reformers in New Haven:

“In some ways, Randi has been great. In some cases, she is holding up a very strong line. In other cases, in New Haven…she is actually pushed her unions much further than unions have gone in the past, rethinking tenure, merit pay, seniority.”
