Wednesday’s Buzz: 10.13.10

THE NEWS

  • University administrators’ ban on bladderball, a raucous Yale tradition, seems to have held this fall. The game, in which students fight for possession of a giant ball, was historically played the weekend of the Yale-Dartmouth football game — which took place this past weekend.
  • For the third straight year, Teach for America was the largest employer of Yale graduates. Eighteen percent of graduating seniors applied to the program, according to data supplied by Undergraduate Career Services. This continues the upward trend of students at Yale and at many other universities around the country choosing to work for TFA, which places college graduates at underserved schools for two-year teaching commitments.
  • An exhibit, called Black Holes – Space Warps and Time Twists, was opened to visitors Friday night. 40 graduate students, professors and museum affiliates attended the opening, which has been developed over three years. While the black hole exhibit will be a new source of education for school groups around New Haven, it will also be relevant for some students at Yale.
