Thursday’s Buzz: 10.07.10

THE NEWS

  • STEP is pursuing initiatives this semester including introducing drying racks to some residential college laundry rooms. But where the Yale College-wide trayless campaign was more high-profile — involving posters and coordinated trayless dining nights in dining halls — the dryer project and some of the individual residential college projects have been more low-key.
  • A United Nations tribunal is set to bring four top officials from the Khmer Rouge to trial early next year for crimes against humanity — and a trio of students from Yale Law School are fighting to bring justice to 83 members of the Khmer Krom, an ethnic group targeted by Pol Pot’s regime.
  • About 100 people flocked to the New Haven Hall of Records Wednesday evening to learn about Elm City Market, a co-operative grocery store developed by Becker + Becker Associates. The co-op will be located on the ground floor of the firm’s new LEED-certified apartment building 360 State. Elm City Market will be the only grocery store in downtown New Haven.
