THE NEWS

  • An inside job. When Deepa Chari ’12 took a job tutoring for Ivy Insiders this summer, she anticipated developing teaching skills as she worked to boost high school students’ test scores. But succeeding at the job, Chari quickly learned, hinged on much more than tutoring abilities. Read more about the famed test prep program in tomorrow’s News.
  • On the big screen. Yalies will no longer need to go to New York to see the Metropolitan Opera: The School of Music will broadcast the Met Opera’s Live in HD series at Sprague Hall, beginning Oct. 9.
  • Unemployment hits undergrads. Between fall 2008 and fall 2009, the Student Employment Office saw a 10 percent drop in the number of working students. Though this year’s employment numbers have not yet been released, tightening budgets across the University may mean student jobs could continue to be eliminated.
