To graduated seniors who are concerned about life post-Yale, here’s another reason not to worry: Former NFL player Eric Johnson ’01, an American Studies major and a former resident of Jonathan Edwards College, is reportedly dating actress and singer Jessica Simpson, the celebrity news website TMZ reported Sunday.

Johnson, a wide receiver at Yale who was drafted out of college by the San Francisco 49ers, has been seeing Simpson since May, an anonymous source told People.com. Neither party has yet commented on the relationship.

Simpson, 29, dated another NFL player, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, from 2007 to 2009. If nothing else, Johnson and Simpson have at least one other thing in common: They’re both divorced. In 2006 Simpson ended her marriage with Nick Lachey, with whom she starred in the reality show “Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica.” Johnson also recently split from his wife, Keri, filing for divorce this past February.

A source close to Johnson and Simpson told TMZ that they are “very happy.” So far, there has been no word on whether the pair will be taking a joint tour of campus à la Jessica Alba and her husband — and Johnson’s classmate — Cash Warren ’01 in 2009.
