A gas leak shut down College Street between Chapel and Crown streets, near the Shubert Theater, Tuesday afternoon around 1 p.m. According to the New Haven Independent, construction crewmen accidentally ruptured a gas pipe when they dug into the asphalt on the street. Neighboring buildings were temporarily evacuated. The leak was patched within an hour.
