Bomb scare. Students at the Cooperative Arts and Humanities Magnet School on the corner of College and Crown streets were evacuated for an hour after the police received a bomb threat Monday. Police suspect the scare was a hoax; it was the third time someone had called 911 to report a bomb threat, and all three claims came from the same telephone number.
Seniors were peeved when an Alumni Fund thank-you e-mail recognizing their donations to the Senior Class Gift Campaign neglected to mention their names, leaving a blank space after “Dear.” Lynn Andrewsen, the managing director of the Yale Alumni Fund, said a computer problem led to the error, and the Yale Alumni Fund sent a second e-mail to the leadership donors to thank them and apologize.
Davenport freshmen were roused from many a pre-dinner snooze when the fire alarm sounded in Welch Hall around 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The culprit? A hot pocket that burnt in a microwave in entryway C. About those code inspections …
Yale’s first Pole Dance Club has hit the ground running. The club’s Facebook page says it was “founded to teach Yalies to pole dance … ’cause with this economy, it might come in handy some day.”
Meryl Streep’s DRA ’75 Yale years will be highlighted on a “Before They Were Famous” segment on tonight’s episode of “20/20.” Streep is nominated for the Oscar for Best Actress, which would be her third Academy Award.
A family friendly screening. The Silliman Activities & Administrative Committee discussed Monday night the movies that might be appropriate for a courtyard screening in the springtime. When asked for her input, Silliman Master Judith Krauss quipped, “No porn in the morn, no porn in the evening, no porn during the day.”
How’s that for new media? The entire front page of Monday’s Columbia Spectator was a promotion for the student newspaper’s new blog, Spectrum. Cross Campus has a blog, too.
