Smoking in Yale housing — is it allowed?

Mixed messages. After a cigarette caused a fire in a Branford College suite last Thursday night, it remains unclear whether students smoking cigarettes in rooms are breaking any rules. Yale College Undergraduate Regulations on housing maintain that “[s]moking is forbidden in the colleges, on the Old Campus and in the New Residence Hall (‘Swing Space’).” But the Council of Masters policies say that smoking in suites is permitted if all members of a suite agree to allow it.
