The New York Times yesterday reviewed the Yale Center for British Art’s newest exhibition, “Mrs. Delany and Her Circle,” a collection of the work of botanical artist Mary Delany.

The show, organized by the Center for British Art and Sir John Soane’s Museum in London, includes work in every conceivable medium. It portrays Mrs. Delany’s long and productive life (1700-1788) as a complex but harmonious marriage of art and science, facilitated by clever networking…

Only a fraction of the “Flora Delanica” is at Yale, but the 30 collages on view have their own classification system. Each bloom is identified as wild English, cultivated English, trans-Atlantic or exotic. Naturalism, geography and social history overlap.
