Police shoot down report about polygraph

The past few days have seen a number of incorrect rumors about Annie Le GRD ’13, including that a professor was the prime suspect in her disappearance (reported Friday), that her body had been recovered (reported Saturday) and that she was buried somewhere in a landfill in Hartford (reported Sunday).

Today brought another such report: The New York Post and the New York Daily News suggested in their stories that a student may have failed a polygraph regarding Le’s disappearance — a report that police officials quickly shot down.

“It’s absolutely not true,” New Haven Police Department Assistant Chief Stephanie Redding said by telephone late last night.

    I have to say, I’ve been really impressed with how well the YDN has been able to stick to the facts in this case. Sensationalizing this story is disrespectful to Annie and those who knew and loved her. Reporting the facts without spreading rumors or jumping to wild conclusions is important in cases like this.

    The denial is careful: ““It’s absolutely not true,” said Assistant Chief Stephanie Redding. But that only means a *student* didn’t fail a LD test.

    NY Daily News: “New Haven police knocked down earlier reports that the suspect is also a student, saying there are “no students involved in this case.”

    This report seems to be gaining steam. And unlike the first report of a body, I actually hope this report is true so it’ll mean nobody else is at risk from the murderer.

    Newsday is reporting that the medical examiner has postively identified the body as Ms. Le’s but is withholding information as to the cause of death. It is quoting ABC and NBC as saying there’s a suspect.

    I believe the police themselves are releasing this information.Then simply not knowing what the other hand is doing.
    If these are false rumours about the student and his wounds then they are thrwing the public off which might be necessary, only hope they are not fishing for a fall guy.

    Of course the real news outlets also know how to work sources. Any experienced reporter knows that the same cop will tell you one thing off the record then say the opposite on the record. I’d bet anything the reports are correct about them knowing who did it. If they did not there would be a campus lockdown
