THE NEWS

  • Along with managing careers in academia, several members of Yale’s faculty are trying their hand at coaching local schoolchildren on the New Haven Youth Soccer League. English Professor Elliott Visconsi said he enjoys coaching the team because “it’s just about fun, respect and joy for the game.”
  • Five professors will receive academic promotions, the Board of Permanent Officers decided Thursday afternoon. Mechanical Engineering Professor Udo Schwarz summed up his reaction to news that he had made tenure: “You feel a great relief that your hard work over all the years (and it is a lot of hard work!) paid off.”
