About

Welcome to Yale on the Trail, the epicenter for the Yale Daily News’ continuous coverage of the 2008 presidential election over the coming eleven months.

Yalies have been infiltrating the White House since the early days of the Republic — most recently by occupying the Oval Office for each of the past 18 years. Whether or not Hillary Clinton LAW ‘ 73, the only Eli on the race this time around, prevails, it is likely that students and professors will have something to do with who becomes the next U.S. leader. Charles Hill and other Yale professors are leading Rudy Giuliani’s foreign policy apparatus; Yale Law School students are dropping everything to fuel Barack Obama’s run; students are spending their breaks campaigning in below-freezing weather for John Edwards, Joe Biden… the list goes on. And on—as this race is unprecedented in every way, beginning with the sheer number of contenders.

So sit back and enjoy this crazy ride. Check here for on-site coverage of the primaries, but don’t expect the same stories you would find at the New York Times or Politico; we are instead striving to focus on the uniquely intense involvement of students in the race and, of course, that of current Elis and alums. If at any point, you’d like to contribute, e-mail the election coverage team at ydnelection@panlists.yale.edu. If not, well, see you at the end!
