At a Morse College Master’s Tea last January, New York Times reporter Charles Duhigg ’97 told students to “fail as many times” as possible.

But on Monday, Duhigg failed to follow his own advice after he and his Times team won the Pulitzer Prize in explanatory reporting for a series Duhigg co-authored on the economy. Entitled “The iEconomy,” the series explored the American economy through the lens of various technology firms. The “iEconomy” was published in nine parts, with articles touching on Apple’s tax codes, labor conditions in China and the use of patents in the technology industry.

Duhigg was not the only Yalie who took home an award on Monday — Fredrik Logevall ’90 GRD ’93 also won the Pulitzer Prize for history for his book Embers of War: The Fall of an Empire and the Making of America’s Vietnam. Published in 2012, Embers of War is a book of Vietnamese history that begins after World War I and finishes before America’s war with Vietnam.

Five Yale alumni were awarded Pulitzer Prizes last year.
