A revised agenda for Monday’s Board of Alders meeting reveals that Mayor Toni Harp has selected a chief administrative officer: Michael A. Carter.

Carter is currently the deputy director for operations at the Department of Public Works in Washington, D.C. Before that, Carter worked for D.C.’s Water and Sewer Authority. He came to D.C. from Indianapolis, Indiana, where he was an administrator in the city’s Solid Waste Division.

Harp, who took office January 1, launched a nationwide search to replace former CAO Rob Smuts ’01. The city’s deputy CAO, Jennifer Pugh, was doing the job on an acting basis.

Harp said the personnel committee of her mayoral transition team recommended Carter unanimously. She has submitted Carter’s appointment to the Board. It will be referred to committee before going to the full body for a vote.
