THE NEWS

  • Dancing and promises of a safer, more prosperous New Haven filled Wooster Square Park Monday night as Toni Harp ARC ’78 received the backing of yet another major New Haven Democrat. In a Democratic “unity” rally, longtime Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro endorsed Harp’s bid to become the next mayor of New Haven. DeLauro, who grew up in Wooster Square, reiterated Harp’s commitment to the three pillars of her campaign: jobs, public safety and a better future for the city’s youth. The endorsement, which came just under two weeks after Harp won an emphatic victory in the city’s Democratic primary, follows those of other prominent Democratic elected officials, most notably Gov. Dannel Malloy and Sen. Chris Murphy.
  • In response to the complaints of students receiving their packages during the past few weeks, Yale Station has made several new changes to ensure it will to operate without major delays. Since the semester began, the post office has been struggling to keep up with the heavy influx of packages, resulting in extensive backlogs and long lines. The post office has staffed additional employees, extended opening hours and added an operational window for more effective parcel distribution to combat this year’s marked increase in parcels.
  • Lisa Kereszi ART ’00 has transformed the Davenport College Gallery into a junkyard. “Joe’s Junkyard” boasts 12 of the School of Art professor’s photographs, which depict various scenes of her family’s eponymous business in suburban Philadelphia. It pulls from a substantial body of work, produced over a 20-year period beginning when Kereszi was just 16. Kereszi said the particular images that make up the show are all drawn from her new book, “Joe’s Junk Yard.”
