Connecticut Sen. Chris Murphy will endorse mayoral hopeful and Connecticut State Sen. Toni Harp ’78 on Tuesday afternoon, a Harp campaign press statement announced Monday.

The vote of confidence from Murphy will be the latest in a series of endorsements that have positioned Harp as the perceived frontrunner in the four-way race to succeed John DeStefano Jr. Over the summer, Harp won the backing of Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy, the Democratic Town Committee, Yale’s UNITE HERE Locals 34 and 35, and a majority of the city lawmakers on the New Haven Board of Aldermen.

Prior to winning election to the U.S. Senate in 2012, Murphy represented Connecticut’s fifth district in the U.S. House of Representatives. He has also served in the Connecticut State Senate and the Connecticut House of Representatives. He has never represented New Haven.

Murphy will endorse Harp at the Farnam Neighborhood House Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
