No. 1-seeded Syracuse ended the men’s lacrosse team’s season on Saturday in the NCAA national tournament quarterfinals in a narrow 7-6 victory, but the Bulldogs held a strong lead over the Orange for the majority of the game.

Yale was kept scoreless for much of the first quarter, with Syracuse jumping out to a quick 4-0 lead with a minute left in first frame. Attackman Brandon Mangan ’14 managed to slip one by the Orange to get the Elis on the board before the quarter’s end.

With a single goal, Mangan stopped Syracuse in its tracks and put the Orange back on their heels. In the next 43 minutes, the Elis would go on one of their many scoring sprees of the 2013 season.

Attackman Conrad Oberbeck ’15 took the only goal of the quiet second quarter before the Bulldogs set out to mark their territory in the third quarter.

Mangan put away another two goals in the third and Oberbeck added his second of the game to give the Elis the 5-4 edge.

Coming into the final quarter, midfielder Michael Lipin ’13 cut across the top of the offensive end and picked off the top corner to give Yale a two-goal lead.

Despite a 43 minute silence, Syracuse was down but not out. With three minutes left to play, the Orange made a three-goal comeback to top the Elis, including a goal from Dylan Donahue with 13 seconds left to make it 7-6.

The Bulldogs ended another successful season, taking the Ivy League championship for the second straight year.
