Two men held the occupants of a Yale community member’s house captive this afternoon before stealing a car and keys.

According to an email sent by Yale Police Chief Ronnell Higgins to the University community shortly before 10 p.m. this evening, the suspects fled the Huntington Street house in the occupants’ stolen car.

“The Yale and New Haven Police are on the lookout for the stolen vehicle,” Higgins wrote in the email. “It is a White Pontiac Aztek bearing Connecticut license plate 977XGC, occupied by two black males, one described as thin and wearing a black hat and the other described as shorter, with a dark shirt partially covering his face.”

The Yale Police Department was first notified of the robbery by the New Haven Police Department this afternoon and is continuing the investigation, which Higgins’ characterized as “very active.” The email did not say whether any of those held captive during the robbery sustained injuries.

Higgins’ email urged anyone who sees the stolen car or has any other information on the crime to call the Yale Police at (203) 432-4400.
