The Elis avenged last week’s loss at Brown with a 12-point victory over the Bears today, but the game was much closer than the final score.

Yale (7–12, 1–1 Ivy) dominated the extra period for a 76–64 victory after Brown (7–9, 1–1) erased a 10-point halftime deficit to force overtime. Forward Justin Sears ’16 led all scorers with 18 points and eight rebounds. Guard Austin Morgan ’13 hit four 3-pointers for 16 points – including a 3 in overtime that gave Yale the lead for good.

Ten Bulldogs played 12 or more minutes as Yale’s depth wore down the Bears. Guard Sean McGonagill played all 45 minutes for Brown to lead four Bears logging more than 30 minutes.

Forward Tucker Halpern hit two free throws to tie the game at 58, but guard Stephen Albrecht’s 3 to win the game clanged off the side of the rim and guard Javier Duren ’15 pulled down the rebound to send the game into the extra period.

Yale begins a four-game road trip next weekend at Harvard on Friday, Feb. 1.
