No Yale students were awarded the Marshall Scholarship this year, a break from the University’s previous success with the scholarship.

One Yalie won the scholarship last year, three won in 2010 and another three were awarded the Marshall in 2009. The scholarship, which provides several years of fully funded study at any university in the United Kingdom, is offered to roughly 40 students each year.

Still, Yale made an impressive showing in elite scholarships this year, claiming eight Rhodes scholarships — the largest out of any college this year and in the University’s history — and one Mitchell Scholarship.

Katherine Dailinger, director for national fellowships at the Yale Center for International and Professional Experience, said she is delighted with the “sheer, extraordinary numbers [of award-winning students] this year.”
