  • As the search for a new Divinity School dean enters its final stages, the search committee narrowing the field to candidates who can help the School become more diverse as the role of Christianity in modern society deviates from tradition. Divinity School Professor John Collins, chair of the search committee, said the group has selected its top six choices from an applicant pool of roughly 100. In the coming weeks, the committee will give between two and five finalists to University President Richard Levin, who said he would make a final decision “before the holidays.” Members of the search committee said the new dean must both possess a strong theological background and administrative experience.
  • A puppet show, disco balls, Keith Richards-inspired costuming and an adult in a diaper are just some of the anachronistic elements of the latest Molière production to hit New Haven.

“A Doctor in Spite of Himself” opens Friday at the Yale Repertory Theatre as an homage to the French playwright and the history of comedy, said director Christopher Bayes. The show, a co-production between the Yale Rep and the Berkeley Repertory Theatre, will next travel to Berkeley, California to open in early February.

  • Despite recent reports that Harvard is looking to rid itself of roughly $1.5 billion in illiquid private equity investments, Yale remains committed to its holdings in such funds.

While private equity investments bolstered significant growth in higher education endowments over the past decade, this asset class also contributed to the dramatic declines that endowments nationwide saw when the recession struck in 2008. As Harvard’s endowment proceeded to plunge 27.3 percent, the Harvard Management Company adjusted its strategy to reduce reliance on illiquid assets — an effort that has continued with the investments team’s recent plan to sell private equity holdings.
