End of Occupy? At a meeting Monday night, about 30 students discussed ways to assist the protesters Occupying the New Haven Green, but also wondered whether the environment had become too dangerous for Yale students to Occupy safely or productively. “I’m not sure if increasing the physical presence of Yale students in the camp would be helpful right now,” said Martina Crouch ’14, a student involved with Occupy New Haven. “The Green is just not a receptive environment at the moment.”

End of the world … almost. Meg Urry, chair of the Physics Department, wrote an article for CNN explaining that although the asteroid YU55 passed within the moon’s orbit on Tuesday, it will not hit Earth in the next 100 years. In the article, Yale physics research scientist David Rabinowitz said such asteroids pass the Earth once every 100 years, and strike every 100,000. So we’re safe for now.

Looking for the next asteroid. A man set up a telescope at the corner of York Street and Broadway on Tuesday evening and invited passersby to gaze into the night sky at Jupiter, which passed nearby the moon in the night sky last night and will do so again this evening.

Broadway gets in the spirit. The trees and bushes on Broadway are now decorated with white holiday lights.

Remembering. U.S. President Barack Obama appointed Clemantine Wamariya ’13 to serve on the Holocaust Memorial Council late last month. Wamariya, a survivor of the Rwandan genocide who came to prominence after appearing on the Oprah Winfrey show in 2006, will serve along the likes of author Elie Wiesel and U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

A car crashed into the Park Street side of Pierson College late Tuesday night after its driver fell asleep at the wheel.
