Add another accolade to the growing list of accomplishments by Patrick Witt ’12.

The senior quarterback has been named as one of the 16 honorees for the National Football Foundation and Hall of Fame’s scholar-athlete winners, which gives out an $18,000 post-graduate scholarship to every recipient. The last Eli to receive this honor was defensive back Casey Gerald ’09.

Witt is also a finalist for the 2011 William V. Campbell Trophy, the highest academic honor awarded annually to a collegiate football player.

In his third year as the starting signal caller for the Bulldogs, Witt is on his way to claim every single one of the Elis’ major passing records. He is Yale’s career leader in completions with 463 and ranks second in both passing attempts and yards.

But Witt’s achievements off the gridiron are equally impressive.

A History major with a 3.91 GPA, Witt has been endorsed by Yale as a Rhodes Scholar candidate and also named a semifinalist for the Mitchell Scholarship. He is also this year’s recipient of the Francis Gordon Brown Prize, one of Yale’s highest undergraduate awards.
