Someone call John Lewis Gaddis: the first strike in New Haven’s froyo cold war has finally been launched.

Flavors, the new self-serve frozen yogurt lounge on York Street, had its grand opening Friday night after weeks of icy anticipation. Customers began filling the premises at 6:30 p.m. to try out the store’s 10 “ice cream flavors” for 49 cents per ounce, owner Heela Kim said. Flavors on display tonight included “Alpine Vanilla,” “Cable Car Chocolate,” “New York Cheesecake,” Pecan Praline,” “Cookies n’ Cream,” “Thin Mint Cookie,” “Red Velvet,” “Mounds,” “Mango Tango” and “Euro Tart,” which can be paired with more than 30 fruit and candy toppings.

Flavors is now open seven days a week, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 12 pm Friday through Saturday. Kim said the store may soon extend its weekend hours to the early morning depending on the number of customers it sees in the coming days. The store is located at 290 York Street, in building that once housed Labyrinth Books.

Will Froyoworld retaliate? Only time will tell.
