Intruders, beware. The stair doors in the Swing Space Dorm are now accessible only through active card readers — cementing the separation between the Yale College and Yale Law School sections of the building.

In an email from Hesh Rosenberg, the associate director of Yale Security Systems & Planning, Swing Space resident were told that effective this morning, the Swing Dorm stair doors would be locked. Once accessed by a student’s ID card, undergraduates will be able to roam freely between the basement and the third floor. The fourth floor — inhabited by Yale Law School administrative offices and student groups — would remain off limits.

Aside from restricted stair access, Yale Law School also has a separate elevator and a separate entrance to Swing via 40 Ashmun Street. Read the email below:

Please be aware that, effective this morning, the stair doors in the Swing Dorm are locked and on active card readers; and student residents’ ID cards should work there now. Cards will work on the stair doors from the basement through the 3rd floors (the 4th flr is Law School space)…. Also, shortly, the elevator access to the basement and all the floors but 1 will be on card access as well….

If anyone has a problem with his/her card, please email 432.open@yale.edu.
