Let there be light. Lynwood Place finally got power back around 3:30 a.m. Monday after Tropical Storm Irene put it in the dark for nearly eight days. “I’m elated, euphoric, but it’s sad to have to be so happy about something so basic,” Kat Lau ’13 said as she exited her house at 28 Lynwood Place.

Out to the polls. In exactly one week, Yalies registered to vote as Democrats in New Haven will get a chance to vote in a hotly contested mayoral primary. Those in Wards 2 and 22 will also get to cast their ballots for aldermanic candidates. For more, see page three.

Mayoral candidate Jeffrey Kerekes posted on his Facebook page Monday night, “If your Kerekes for Mayor yard sign was stolen and replaced by a DeStefano yard sign. Please contact us [sic].” He told the News he had heard reports of such actions occurring in East Rock.

“Membership has its privileges.” That’s what Jackson Institute for Global Affairs Director Jim Levinsohn told global affairs majors in an email Sunday inviting them to a dinner held Monday night. The dinner was held at Levinsohn’s house and was attended by prominent figures such as Gen. Stanley McChrystal.

Music on York. A 13-year-old serenaded people strolling on York Street near Willoughby’s Coffee & Tea Monday. The teenager, Hamden resident Henry Sidle, said he performs around the state.

Sweet tooth? Student-run organization Cupcakes with a Heart is selling cupcakes tonight at 10 p.m. in the Calhoun College buttery. Proceeds will go to New Haven Reads.

Ricci for DeStefano? New Haven firefighter Frank Ricci, known from the 2009 Supreme Court case Ricci v. DeStefano, which alleged discriminatory testing for New Haven Fire Department promotions, has found himself in political cahoots with Mayor John DeStefano Jr. His union announced its endorsement of the mayor’s re-election campaign Monday.

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee is coming to Yale Sept. 16 for a lecture hosted by the William F. Buckley Jr. Program. “Restoring American values” will be the topic of discussion.
