  • Unless a buyer steps in with an offer, Labyrinth Books could close in as soon as two weeks. For the last few months, the York Street bookstore, which has offered Yale coursebooks as well as a variety of academic titles, has searched for a buyer without success, said Labyrinth Books’ manager Martha MacDonald. The store has not ordered any coursebooks for the upcoming academic year, MacDonald said, and on Monday several of the store’s shelves, including long stretches of the higher bookcases, had been cleared.
  • The committee charged with assessing reform to Yale’s curriculum has found it difficult to measure the effects of the 2005 changes to academic requirements, but their findings point towards significant positive change. Yale College Dean Mary Miller said the Committee on Yale College Education is nearly done with its report, but will delay the completion of the roughly 60 page document, which was originally slated for completion this April, until late in the summer. Committee members will present some of their analysis at a May 5 faculty meeting, and found among other things that undergraduates’ writing usually improves over the course of four years at Yale, and that the number of students who go abroad has grown since the 2003-’04 academic year.
  • College Musical the Movie,” a feature film spin-off of the popular “College Musical” YouTubeseries directed by Kurt Schneider ’10 and starring Sam Tsui ’11, will premiere this Sunday at the Whitney Humanities Center. Filmed at Yale last summer and produced almost entirely by current and former students, the movie is a musical comedy about a student — Cooper, played by Tsui — who is infatuated with his teaching assistant, played by Allison Williams ’10.
