Kenny Agostino ’14, the smooth-skating forward on the men’s hockey team, has been named National Rookie of the Month for January by the Hockey Commissioners Association.

The Berkeleyite had eight goals and four assists in Yale’s nine games since winter vacation.

“It’s a tremendous honor and I’m happy to be chosen, but obviously it’s a credit to my teammates and my linemates and their play,” said the winger, who had not heard of the award until contacted by the News Thursday night.

Agostino’s eight January goals led the ECAC. He scored more points in the month than any other Eli, and was named ECAC Rookie of the Week on Jan. 25 after scoring three goals — including two game-winners — in two games. Agostino also tied a school freshman record with five points — including a hat trick — in the Elis’ 10–3 thumping of Holy Cross.

“I’ve had a great run, and most of it is thanks to my linemates and some luck,” Agostino said. “What’s made my linemates and me good is our hard work, and we have to keep putting that work in day in and day out.”
