UPDATED: 5:18 p.m. City Hall spokeswoman Jessica Mayorga, the voice of Mayor John DeStefano Jr.’s administration for nearly four years, is serving her last week.

Mayorga said in an e-mail to the News that she is leaving earlier than expected because she is starting a new job as marketing director of National Council of La Raza, the Latino civil rights organization. Mayorga was asked to start in February, and so had to “expedite” her move, she said.

“It is with a heavy heart that I leave the City,” Mayorga said. “This has been much more than a job, this experience has really been a part of my life for the last four years and there is so much I’m going to miss!”

Mayorga told the News in December she would be leaving in the spring for a job in her native Maryland, where her husband, a medical resident at Yale-New Haven Hospital, will take a job at a hospital. Mayorga told city officials when she took the job in March 2007 that she expected to be in New Haven only four years, but her departure was not expected to come this soon.

The city has not yet found a replacement for her or her aide, Elyse Lyons, who will be leaving to take a job with New Haven Promise.
