UPDATE: Tuesday 1:28 p.m. The men’s hockey team has fallen out of the No. 1 spot in the national rankings after dropping both its games last weekend.

The Elis (17-4-0, 11-3-0 ECAC) now sit in the No. 3 spot in this week’s USCHO.com poll, and in USA Today’s No. 2 spot.

Boston College (18-6-0), which was the only school besides Yale to receive first place votes last week, jumped ahead of the Elis in both rankings. The Eagles eliminated Yale from the NCAA tournament last year in the quarterfinals and went on to capture the national championship. They won both their games this weekend and have lost once in their past 11 games.

Yale has lost three of five.

Boston College received 41 of 50 first place votes in USCHO’s poll. New No. 2 Denver also swept its weekend, and earned six first place votes. Yale received two.

USA Today voters gave Boston College 26 of 34 top votes. In their ranking, Yale remained in the No. 2 spot, just barely above Denver.

The Elis had held on to their spot atop the rankings for eight weeks before falling to Union — which moved up two spots to No. 11 in both polls — and Rensselaer — which climbed one spot in the USCHO poll to No. 9 and two spots in the USA Today poll to No. 8 — on the road this weekend.

Two Ivy League teams beside Yale remain in the nation’s top 20: Dartmouth — which visits Ingalls Rink on Saturday — sits at No. 17 and Princeton at No. 19 in the USCHO poll. USA Today only ranks the top 15 teams.
