Governor-elect Dan Malloy has selected Jewel Mullen ‘77 GRD ’96, a lecturer in Epidemiology at the School of Public Health, to serve as Connecticut’s public health commissioner, sources told the Connecticut Mirror Friday.

Mullen, a graduate of the School of Public Health, currently works in Massachusetts’ Department of Public Health as the director of Bureau of Community Health and Prevention, and as the director of chronic diseases. When her appointment is officially announced Tuesday, Mullen will become the second woman and second African American to direct a state agency under Malloy. Malloy’s pledged during the campaign to increase diversity in the top ranks of state government.
