South Korea’s Supreme Court on Thursday upheld the 18-month prison sentence of Shin Jeong-ah, former professor at Dongguk University in South Korea who falsely claimed to have received her doctorate at Yale, according to an article in the Korea Times.

“Given the evidence, the accused apparently fabricated the diploma,” the court ruling said. “By doing so, she disrupted the operations of Dongguk University.”

Shin, who was arrested by South Korean authorities in October 2007, was convicted of forgery by a Korean court last March and sentenced to serve 18 months in prison. She was released on bail in April 2009.

Dongguk currently has a $50 million suit against Yale in Federal District Court in Connecticut.
