El Poblano restaurant on Forbes Avenue in the East Shore neighborhood was robbed Monday night, and one of its employees was struck with a metal pipe during the incident. New Haven Police Spokesman Joe Avery said that around 7:10 p.m. Monday, a male wearing a black ski mask entered the restaurant and demanded money from an employee, brandishing a metal pipe. The employee complied with his demands, opening the register and beginning to hand over money, when the intruder struck him on the head with the pipe. The victim told police that the man then searched behind the restaurant’s counter for more cash but found none. The robber exited the building, entered a waiting black Ford Explorer with tinted windows and left the scene of the crime, Avery said.
