The New Haven Port Authority yesterday announced that it had received a $1.1 million federal grant to enhance fencing, camera and lighting facilities. A $41.3 million grant is also currently being solicited from the Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery Funds to allow port authorities to complete reconstruction of the Waterfront Street project, halted in March due to a loss of state funding, and connect marine terminals with railroads and thereby easing traffic congestion. Judi Sheiffele, executive director of the New Haven Port Authority, said the new funding would bring new business to the city from the renewable energy sector as well as from firms currently unable to transport their products via road.
