Gov. M. Jodi Rell directed the state Department of Labor’s Rapid Response Unit to coordinate assistance to over 100 employees of Milford Fabricating Co. after its factory was shuttered by a massive fire Tuesday. While no one was injured in the blaze at the metal fabrication plant, compressed flammable gasses caused irreparable damage to the building, leaving employees without any jobs in the immediate future. In a statement Tuesday, Rell said the state would help displaced workers collect unemployment and health benefits. “We are committed to doing everything possible to help these employees and their families stay on an even keel,” she said.
