The “This day in Yale history” item in Cross Campus mistakenly implied an incorrect date to when William H. Taft 1878 became president of the United States. When he spoke at a dinner for the Yale Alumni Association of New Haven in 1914, he had already served as the 27th president; he was not a “president-to-be.”
